All About

The homeowners own a charming home in a historic area of town. They landscaped the front yard themselves, but they think the backyard will take more expertise than they have to offer. The yard is small, and they want visual focal points as well as an area where people can gather so they can enjoy the yard. Bruce Wells of Hastings Landscape Service developed a plan for them that combines a natural water garden, plantings and hardscapes that make use of the yard's limited space. First, workers dig a stream that flows across the yard into a pond. This creates a focal point from the existing deck as well as from the new patio. The plans call for a new flagstone patio off the back of the house with stone walkways to complement it. To the right of the patio, an arbor is built to lead to the driveway. An array of plants complement the final design.
