Ground Breakers

The homeowner has lived in her historic 1930's home for 25 years, and she wants to transform her house into a working bed-and-breakfast. Much of the masonry on the grounds has deteriorated over the years. The front and side yards have become overgrown and dense with excess foliage. The homeowner wants to have outdoor living spaces where her family and guests can gather to socialize and relax. Landscape designer Andy Rhodes of AR Landscaping has developed a plan for the grounds; he incorporates a nature trail and highlights spectacular trees and indigenous plants such as chestnut oaks and azaleas. Rhodes also installs a 3,000-square-foot stone patio in the front yard. The patio leads to a new working well, which will supply water to irrigate the property. His plan for the back yard calls for a 4,500-square-foot patio, also made of stone. A stacked-stone wall circles the patio. An arbor will connect the patio to the rest of the yard. The property is transformed into a beautiful setting for the homeowner's family and guests to enjoy.
