The seating area, sectioned off by a sisal-style nylon rug fashioned from recycled material, accommodates a formal Transitions by The Charles Stewart Company chaise, covered in organic fabric. Why the bright shade of mandarin orange? “We picked that more intense bright orange just to give us a pow,” adds Woodrum. “Because we have a room that is made up of four areas and each area has to have a really significant identity. So the identity in the lounge is really the powerful color.” Each seat gets a cozy makeover with the addition of a zebra-patterned hide pillow, a cut velvet and linen pillow and a chunky hand-knit bamboo–blend throw in a calming shade of chocolate truffle. And to add a touch of whimsy, Woodrum chose a papier-mache lamp by Stray Dog Designs to top the artisan-crafted, recycled-metal coffee table. The artichoke-shaped light fixture, made of recycled paper, is topped with a recycled glass finial.
Whether one is snuggled up with a good book or chatting it up with a good friend, refreshments are always close at hand. Built-in storage behind the seating area, which serves to keep the space clean and uncluttered, includes a dual-zone wine cabinet and a beverage cooler, fully stocked should company drop by. The striking CaesarStone countertop in bold black quartz displays a carefully curated selection of treasures, including faux-wood planters filled with palm plants, art books and a ceramic palm leaf. “It has a beautiful sculptural shape and, again, it’s tropical,” states Woodrum of the striking accessory. “You are looking for decor items that reference the region, without being so destination-specific that they are clichéd.”
