Hosta Guru Rethinks His Garden

A native of Germany, George Schmid came to the U.S. more than 50 year ago. Schmid began a hosta collection at his home in Tucker, Ga., and became so interested that he learned Japanese in order to write a 400-page book on hostas. Recently, he has given his hosta collection away and planted more shade-loving perennials and shrubs to make an even more beautiful garden. Schmid is also the author of a book on shade perennials.
