Designer's Notes

This was an unfinished, detached garage. Sprayed insulation (Icynene) allowed us to improve energy efficiency, preserve the height and wrap the beams with gypsum board, for an uplifting feel. The concrete slab was stained with a soy-based concrete stain (Soy-Crete), which is low VOC and a less expensive process than acid staining. Warehouse-type lighting is by Ark Lighting.
Tip: Is budget tight for cabinets? Consider using chunky floating shelves instead of upper cabinets in some areas. These are available at IKEA, west elm or Lowe's Home Improvement Center.
