Windows plus a great view make this kitchen a looker.

When Jim Reyes-Picknell went on the hunt for a hip bachelor pad, he had a couple of goals in mind. He wanted it to be both attractive to women and well suited for cooking.

His stellar apartment now has a stellar kitchen to match, thanks to designer Beverly Binns. To make it complete, he also found the perfect woman to share it with. Now Jim and his wife, Aileen, are cooking in style.

The windows above the kitchen counters extend into the dining area, providing the homeowners with a panoramic view of the Toronto skyline beyond the trees. "We have absolutely the best view in the city. We see the entire city skyline. It's just amazing for entertaining," explains Aileen.

When planning the kitchen design, having a grill was at the top of Jim's wish list. He didn't think it was possible, though, since the apartment building doesn't have gas. Then he discovered an electric grill. It is part of an integrated modular cooktop that includes four burners. The microwave and oven are neatly tucked into the cabinets below the cooktop.

Adding some unique style to the kitchen island is a raised glass countertop that is perfect for entertaining. Held up by cool stainless-steel posts, the glass eating bar makes for a great social zone in the kitchen.

A material called Silestone is used for the countertops. It looks very much like granite but is fabricated from quartz and resin. They are installed very tight to the kitchen cabinets to create a modern, clean look.

Stainless-steel legs hold up the lower cabinets. The home's heating system is hidden behind the cabinets, so an open space was needed to let air flow through. The dishwasher and refrigerator are both integrated into the cabinetry with custom-made cherry veneer panels.
