How to Make a Reversible Bedspread

Step-by-step instructions for a kid-friendly bedcover guaranteed to stay clean twice as long

If you have kids, reversible bedspreads can be a real blessing. Here's how to make one:

Materials and Tools:

2 complementary fabrics
trim
scissors
sewing machine
thread
pins

Steps:

1. To get the necessary width, add the width of the mattress and the drop on each side (from the top of the mattress to the floor or the desired side length). For the length, measure the length of the mattress and the drop plus 20 inches for the portion that gets tucked under the pillow. For each side of the bedspread, cut three pieces (the two side panels and the center one). Sew them together to create two large pieces, which will become the front and the back of the spread.

2. Pin the desired trim to the right side of three sides of the bedspread bottom, starting along one side. Pin the top of the bedspread to the bottom so that right sides are facing each other.

3. Stitch all three layers together, leaving an open area along the top of the bedspread for turning.

4. Stitch the opening closed.
