John Lautner - El Rod Residence Exterior

It's the most famous bachelor pad in the world, the Palm Springs spread that made Ian Fleming's James Bond the envy of married men and the object of female fantasy as portrayed by Sean Connery in the 1971 Diamonds Are Forever.

John Lautner - Garcia House Bi-Level

Garcia House: Built on Point Dume in 1972, this 3,650-square-foot post-and-beam Malibu hide-away is on a secluded acre of land. It's simply gorgeous, with sandstone floors (heated!), an outdoor steam room and glass walls. Purchased by celebrity power couple Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay's Chris Martin (who crashed the Goop website with their March, 2014 "conscious uncoupling" announcement). Pre-divorce, though, they shelled-out $14 million on this Lautner used in L ethal Weapon 2.

John Lautner - Schaffer House Living Room

Schaffer House: Built in 1949, the midcentury clear-heart redwood, glass and red brick home embraced by oak trees showcases Lautner's mastery of indoor-outdoor living in the Southern California. Used as the set for director Tom's Ford's 2009 maiden voyage film A Single Man, much of the talk was about "that gorgeous house." Wide slatted-wood grids are deployed to divide, separate and guide living spaces with concrete flooring,. The grand pivot doors (far left) open to an expansive patio. (The slatted ceiling is continuous, extending outside.)
