Materials and Tools:

12x12 granite tiles
hardy board
tile adhesive
waterproofing sealer
four 1x4 pine
circular saw
jig saw
Brad nailer and nails
drill
measuring tape and straight-edge ruler

Steps:

1. Depending on the style of your table, you may have to remove the table base to add the recessed tiles. We removed our base to make the project easier and to add extra support to the table.

2. With a measuring tape and a straight edge, measure and mark the placement for the 12x12 tiles in the center of the table.

3. Drill holes in each of the four corners of the rectangle to make room for the jig saw. Use the jig saw to cut out the rectangle.

4. Cut the 1x4s and nail them around the perimeter of the rectangle from the underside of the tabletop. Cut shorter strips of pine to extend across the frame and serve as further support for the hardy board and tiles.

5. Cut the hardy board to size and place it into the rectangle.

6. Using tile adhesive, adhere the granite tiles to the hardy board.

7. Fill in around tile edges with wood filler and spray waterproof sealer over entire table.
