Secondhand chairs are brought back to life with new cushion covers. Find more ways to revive old stuff with Design on a Dime.

Materials Needed:

  • 8 existing back cushions
  • 8 existing bottom cushions
  • 1 solid fabric (royal blue crepe)
  • 1 printed fabric (blue-and-cream floral damask)
  • 1 solid contrasting fabric (cream)
  • tape measure
  • fabric marker
  • scissors
  • sewing machine
  • needle and thread

Step 1

Measure the dimensions of existing cushions. Mark the new fabrics one-inch larger than the dimensions to allow for seams.

Step 2

Cut the new back cushion covers from the printed fabric. Use the contrasting fabric for the back cushion ties and the solid fabric for the seat cushion covers.

Step 3

With a sewing machine, attach the pieces together inside-out, sewing the contrasting cream fabric ties into the upper corners of the back cushion covers. Leave an opening along one seam of each cover long enough to slide the existing cushions through.

Step 4

Flip the newly sewn covers right-side out and insert old cushions into the new covers.

Step 5

With a needle and thread, sew the open seams closed.
