Wild "Hairy" Pendant

Materials and Tools:

Special Effects yarn trio (yarn, eyelash, ribbon, trim)
2 yards Special Effects dyed rattail
2-1/4" circle matte board
2-1/4" circle thin batting or felt
3" circle of thin fabric
3/4" - 1" fancy button
2-1/4" circle ultra suede or felt
iridescent pebble beads
glue
needle and thread
scissors
ruler

Steps:

1. Make 10 assorted loop flowers by referring to the instructions in The Secrets of Fashioning Ribbon Flowers book. Each flower uses about 6" of 1/4" wide ribbon and has five or six loops. Set the flowers aside.

2. Lightly glue batting to the matte board circle. Cover the circle with fabric by stitching around the fabric and pulling the gathering tightly over the batting and board.

3. Glue the button to the center front of the fabric-covered circle.

4. Using 2" of ribbon, make a loop and glue it to the top back of the pendant. This is for the neck cord.

5. Glue the loop flowers around the button.

6. Arrange several layers of yarn and eyelash thread around the edge of the circle. Stitch the yarns to the fabric in several places to secure. Embellish with beads as needed.

7. Make a beaded tassel using 9" of the rattail cording. Thread pebble beads onto the rattail and knot in place. Glue the rattail pieces to the bottom and back of the pendant.

8. Cover the back of the pendant with ultra suede, leather, fabric or felt.

9. Randomly thread pebble beads onto the rattail neck cord. Knot them in place with simple overhand knots. Tie a simple knot for the neck cord closure or use jewelry findings.
