Easy Ornaments

Create miniature nests filled with birds from nuts this holiday season.

Gather Your Supplies

For this craft you will need: Assorted holiday nuts in shells/ hot glue gun/ raffia/ scissors/ moss/ holiday miniature findings/ black seed beads/ nut cracker/ feathers/ and craft paper

Split the Shells

Spread out crafting paper in your workspace. With the nut cracker split a walnut shell in two. It may take a couple of tries.

Raffia Hanger

Cut a six inch piece of raffia and hot glue both ends into the bottom of the walnut shell.

Add a Bird

With the nut of your choice, in this case an almond, hot glue your bird into the center of the walnut shell.

Nesting Material

Tuck moss around the bird and down into the shell. Hot glue it into place.

Deck the Nest

Holiday miniature finding like these add sweet touches to the birds nests.

Add Decorations

Hot glue the miniature decorations onto the nest.

Mix it Up

Here are some other ideas for decorating the nests and birds. Miniature trees and tiny wreaths help to make the bird nests festive.

Eyes and Beaks

Hot glue small seed beads in place for the eyes. For the beaks, use small bits of walnut shells that resemble beaks. Hot glue those in place.

Final Touches

Lastly, hot glue feathers to the back of the bodies. For a touch of whimsy, I used feathers collected from my backyard chickens. The ornaments are now ready for the tree.
