DIY Pillow

Express your garden love for the world to see with this charming homemade garden-inspired pillow.

Gather Your Supplies

For this craft you will need: assorted felt / felt balls / scissors / hot glue gun / pre-made pillow / pillow insert / computer printer / computer paper / fabric glue / ink pen / iron

Flowers First

Begin by crafting the flowers. Cut a six inch diameter circle from a piece of felt and then cut it to coil. Cut a smaller 2 1/2 inch circle from the same color felt. Cut another 2 1/2 inch circle from a darker color felt. Fringe the edges of that darker circle. Select a small felt ball. Now you are ready to assemble the flower.

Begin in the Center

Hot glue the felt ball into the center of the fringed circle.

Coil it Up

Uncoil the felt circle. Begin by gluing the uncoiled circle to the bottom of the fringed circle like so.

Wrap It Around

Continue to glue as you go and wrap the coiled felt tightly around the center of the flower.

Tuck the End

Glue the end into place. Now flip the flower over.

Finish it Off

Apply hot glue to the bottom of the flower.

Complete Flower

Now take the smaller circle that is the same color as the flower and hot glue it on the back for a finished look.

Flower Number Two

Cut out the following pattern pieces as shown. The circle coil is approximately 4 inches wide. The finger-like petals are approximately 2 inches long. The shorter petals are the cuttings from the top of the petals cleaned up a bit with the scissors.

Start at the Center

Begin again like the last flower—at the center. Uncoil the felt circle and glue it tightly around the felt ball.

Finish the Coil

Finish the coil around the flower as you did for the first one.

Add Petals

Now add the petals to the coiled center one by one around the flower. Hot glue them into place.

Work in a Circle

Turn the flower as you go and combine the petals into a natural looking arrangement.

Flower Power

Once the flower is complete, you can trim off the base a little bit and add a felt circle to the back as you did with the first flower.

Choose a Font

On the computer in a word processing program, choose a font and enlarge the letter of your choice to fit an 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch sheet of paper. Print it out. Then select the same size felt.

Cut it Out

Cut out the letter. Then flip it over and line it up on the felt like so.

Trace It

With an ink pen, trace the letter onto the piece of felt.

Felt Letter

Cut out the felt letter that you traced on the felt.

Tiny Bird

I cut a small bird out freehand from a small remnant piece of felt.

Approve the Layout

Iron the pillow. Then place the letter, flowers, and bird onto the pillow and adjust their positions to your taste.

Glue Them Down

Carefully with a good quality fabric glue, glue each item into place.

Let it Dry

Allow the pillow to dry completely per the glue's directions prior to moving or inserting the pillow form.

Assemble the Pillow

Insert the pillow form into the pillow and then zip it closed. Fluff the pillow as needed.

Pillow Care

This pillow is sure to jazz up the sofa, desk chair, office or even the patio. The pillow is not weather proof and should be spot cleaned only.
