How to Make a Retro Serving Tray

Create a retro-inspired tray perfect for serving sushi or any favorite appetizer.

Materials and Tools:

recycled glass tray
retro fabric
scissors
non-toxic sealant (Mod-Podge)
paintbrush
craft knife
sandpaper
non-toxic varnish 

Steps:

  1. Cut a piece of retro designed fabric slightly larger than the glass tray.
  2. Apply a thin coat of sealant with a brush to the back of the tray.
  3. Lay the fabric over the sealant.
  4. Carefully press the fabric onto the sealant until smooth.
  5. Cut off excess fabric with scissors.
  6. Place sealant on the edges and smooth the fabric over the edges. Let dry for an hour.
  7. Apply a coat of sealant on the back of the fabric. Let dry for an hour.
  8. Carefully cut the fabric off the edges with a craft knife.
  9. Sand the back of the fabric with sandpaper.
  10. Apply a coat of sealant over the back of the fabric. Let dry.
  11. Alternate coats of sealant with sandpapering until there are five coats of sealant on the back of the retro serving tray.
  12. Smooth all the edges with a craft knife.
  13. Apply a coat of non-toxic varnish. Let dry for a few hours.
  14. Lightly sandpaper the fabric.
  15. Apply a second coat of non-toxic varnish to the fabric side of the retro tray.
