How to Make a Quilt Clamp Hanger

Materials and Tools:

1-by-4-inch poplar lumber
miter box
back saw
220-grit sandpaper
tack cloth
drill with spade bit
1½-inch lag bolts
sawtooth picture hangers
wing nuts
quilt

Steps:

1. For each clamp, cut two pieces of 1-by-4 to 4 inches in length with a miter box and a back saw. Soften the corners with a light sanding, and remove the dust with a tack cloth or a damp rag.

2. In the back piece of each clamp, drill a pilot hole large enough for a 1½-inch lag bolt to pass through, and then use a drill with a spade bit to make a countersink hole so the bolt head is recessed. Attach a sawtooth hanger to the same side as the bolt head for hanging.

3. Drill a corresponding pilot hole through the front pieces of each clamp so the bolt fits through it for tightening. Put the bolt through, and then put a wing nut on the end of the bolt.

4. Slip the quilt into the clamps and tighten the wing nuts. Use a nail to hang each clamp.
