Lace Doily and Yarn Pom-Pom

This sweet gift wrap comes together in a snap: Just place the gift in a pretty box and top it with a paper doily held in place with double-sided tape or glue dots. To make the pom-pom, wrap several loops of yarn around your fingers, knot the loops in the middle, then trim the knotted yarn into a rounded pom-pom shape.

Materials Needed:

  • paper doily (a little larger than the box you're covering)
  • glue dots or double-sided tape
  • yarn
  • scissors

Cover Box With Doily

First place gift in a pretty box or wrap with a solid-color gift wrap. Center doily over box then attach it to the top using a glue dot or double-sided tape. Wrap doily around the sides of the box and add more glue dots or tape to the doily's edges to prevent it from shifting when adding the yarn topper.

Make Yarn Pom-Pom

Wrap yarn around your fingers a dozen or so times. The more times you wrap it, the fuller the pom-pom will be (Image 1). Tightly knot a separate piece of yarn around the loops. To be safe, wrap then knot it a few times (Image 2). Cut the center of the loops (Image 3).

Trim Pom-Pom

Clean up any longer ends and give your finished pom-pom a more rounded shape by trimming it (Image 1). Wrap the doily-covered gift with a few criss-cross layers of yarn then tie on the finished pom-pom (Image 2).
