Baked Ice Cream Delights Kids
Tired of the same old cake and ice cream at your children's birthday parties? Try surprising them with baked ice cream; food expert Clare Crespo shows you how to do it.
Baked Ice Cream
standard cake mix, prepared
ice cream cones (flat-bottomed variety, not waffle cone)
cream frosting in flavor of choice
sprinkles, cherries or other garnishes of choice
Spoon prepared cake batter into an ice cream cone 3/4 full and set on baking tray or in muffin tin. Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes (use cupcake times on the back of cake mix box.) Ice with frosting (see recipe below), and garnish with sprinkles, cherries or any other topping of choice.
1/2 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Combine butter and sugar, and add remaining ingredients. Cream until smooth. Add in food coloring. Place icing in a pastry bag and squeeze over cones so that it looks like soft serve ice cream. Try using a squeeze bottle if you don't have a pastry bag or simply spread with a knife. Top with sprinkles, cherries or any other topping of choice.
