Gather Around

A mixture of styles unite in this charming dining room for a comfortable and inviting space to gather. “I wanted the dining room to be a little more playful but also a mix of modern times with classic southern,” explains interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Tasteful Table Setting

Pretty plates in dramatic black and blue place mats match surrounding décor and await accompanying guests.

Dine-In

A traditional wood dining table makes a simple yet elegant statement in a surrounding modern motif.

Horsing Around

Subtle southern influences include a playful bench with horse-shaped legs and a modern day take on a classic hunting painting.

Traditional Turkish Rug

Continuing a traditional theme, an over-dyed Turkish rug rests underneath the dining room table with a striking pop of contrast.

Great Room Gallery

Leading downstairs to the garage and mudroom, an art gallery wall provides an eye-catching focal point. “I always like to have a mix of art that really tells a story,” says Brian.

Mix It Up

A mixture of genres adorn the art wall and hail from both local galleries and Southern artists. To add a little drama, a pair of polished nickel globe pendants provide ambient lighting and give the art wall its own special light.

Capable Cable

Sleek metal cable rails stand out against black handrails and allow for unobstructed views of the engaging art wall.

Industrial Lighting

A caged metal pendant light above the dining table adds a touch of industrialism yet blends in with other black and dark brown accents found throughout the great room.

Expandable Eating

Whether hosting a dinner party or dining with family, the dining table can seat four in a circle or extend out into an oval to seat six.

Kitchen Transition

The open floor plan of the great room provides a convenient transition from the dining room to the kitchen.

Stylish Steel Console

A large steel console provides dining room storage while doubling as a bar. “Between the dining room and the kitchen there needed to be some kind of transition, so I accomplished that with a heavy steel, air craft-style console table that holds a lot of things you don’t want to see,” says Brian.

Hovering Heifers

A locally-sourced painting effortlessly ties in the colors used throughout the house, while referencing Asheville’s rural surroundings with an emphasis on farm-to-table dining.

Mix and Match

Futuristic upholstered arm chairs, farmhouse-style black Windsor chairs and traditional upholstered nailhead trim chairs add variety to the dining room seating. “I used three different kinds of chairs in pairs at the dining table to add personality and to tie into Asheville, which is all about individualism,” says Brian.
