Step Out

Meant to function as another room, the deck celebrates Asheville’s outdoor lifestyle with plenty of entertaining space and a modern Americana theme continued from the master bedroom.

Hardworking Wicker

Gray wicker furniture and a cushy ottoman are weather-resistant and provide a relaxing outdoor oasis.

Light It Up

A galvanized outdoor light brightens the deck for cozy evening gatherings.

Extended Living

With such a smooth indoor to outdoor transition, the deck easily functions as an extension of the home and allows the outdoors to be enjoyed while still maintaining a sense of privacy.

Fenced In

A privacy fence keeps pests at bay and delivers a safe space for pets to run free without worry.

Backyard Haven

Steps lead down to a grassy backyard space with plenty of landscaping for the avid gardener.

Smart Suspension

Kayaks are hoisted up and out of the way on the home’s exterior and ready to be taken out on local river excursions.

Privacy Please

An antique wood sign carries out the same vintage elements from inside and functions as a privacy wall.

Earn Your Stripes

In addition to continuing the modern Americana theme outdoors, a red striped area rug is UV protected and mildew resistant for years of outdoor use.

Potted Plants

A variety of potted plants bring life to the outdoor space and add layers of bungalow landscaping.

Double Function

An old, locally-sourced mom and pop sign serves as art and a room divider on the deck.

Draw the Curtains

Cabana striped curtains can be drawn for privacy or pulled back to enjoy outdoor views. “I like the idea of privacy, because people here tend to use their outdoor spaces a lot,” says interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “The purpose of the drapery in the front and the back was just to add one more layer of separation between the other houses.”

Ultimate Grill Station

A top-of-the-line grill and cushioned wicker armchairs make for relaxing and casual dinner parties outdoors.

Weather-Friendly Material

Who says outdoor furniture can’t be comfortable? Plush wicker chair cushions are upholstered in weather-resistant fabric to handle the elements and last for years.

Set the Bar

An outdoor countertop and window pass-through make entertaining and meal preparation a breeze. “It’s a beautiful space when its open and you’re grilling,” says Brian. “When you have friends over you can easily pass drinks out the window or if you’re eating inside someone can grill and pass it over to you.”

Wine and Dine

Potted plants and floral arrangements create a pretty and peaceful space to unwind and enjoy nature or sit and socialize with family and friends.

Practical Garden Stools

Black ceramic garden stools can function as stylish resting places for food and drinks.

Darling Delphiniums

Beautiful blue delphiniums accompany the red, white and blue motif.

The Great Outdoors

The deck represents both the Asheville and bungalow lifestyle in one space. “Overall, the bungalow lifestyle is kind of set back into nature, and it’s just cozy,” says Brian.
