A stained cedar fence guarantees privacy in the side yard, where a mix of pine and oak trees, ornamental grasses and drought-tolerant perennials comprise the landscape design.

The winner of HGTV Green Home 2011 will receive a brand-new 2011 GMC Terrain, a vehicle that Carandriver.com claims “could be GMC’s best small SUV ever.”

The 2400-square-foot HGTV Green Home faces Stapleton’s native grass park which, during winter months, converts to a sledding hill.

During the peak of autumn, oak trees planted on the property will set fire in a blaze of fall foliage.

Eco-friendly, exterior building materials include both smooth and scraped synthetic limestone blocks and fiber-cement siding, a product composed of 50-percent recycled content (fly ash) and wood fiber pulp supplied from sustainably managed forests.

The home’s windows feature High-Performance? E4? glass, which prevents penetration of damaging UV rays. Further, windows decrease the transfer of heat, which reduces the amount of energy utilized for cooling or heating.

“When the winner walks in this house the first time, I want them to be excited,” says interior designer Linda Woodrum. “I want them to come in and sit down on the sofa, put their feet up, and say, ‘I’m home. I am overjoyed,’” says interior designer Linda Woodrum.
