Small Modern Home With Cedar Exterior

This small modern home was designed specifically to be well insulated and soundproof, but that doesn't mean that aesthetics had to take the back seat. Clad in beautiful cedar, this home becomes one with nature, opening itself up to its surroundings.

Modern Living and Dining Area

To keep this home quiet, the walls are built with insulated concrete forms: a wall assembly nearly 20 inches thick, comprised of a poured concrete core, continuous from footing to roof, wrapped in insulating foam. These walls provide excellent thermal insulation and an extremely low sound transmission.

Soundproof Modern Great Room

Entertaining is easy in this elongated great room that combines kitchen, dining and lounging areas in a modern way. With emphasis placed on acoustics, this home is also soundproof and thickly insulted to keep the noise contained.

All Wood Galley Kitchen

This elongated galley kitchen with a wood-crowned island relies on natural lighting to illuminate the workspace. Parallel to the dining and living areas, it's ideal for hosting a party or having a family dinner. Thickly insulated cedar walls contain a concrete core that also helps reduce noise and keep the space quiet.

Modern Wood Galley Kitchen and Dining Space

Parallel to the dining and living areas, it's ideal for hosting a party or having a family dinner. Thickly insulated cedar walls contain a concrete core that also helps reduce noise and keep the space quiet. A simple white bar in the back tops the space off and breaks up the wood motif.

Modern Acoustic Kitchen With Wood-Paneled Walls

The location of this house, in the heart of a bustling resort town, demanded that special attention be paid to acoustics. The walls are built with insulated concrete forms: a wall assembly nearly 20 inches thick, comprised of a poured concrete core, continuous from footing to roof, wrapped in insulating foam and topped with cedar planks. These walls provide excellent thermal insulation and an extremely low sound transmission.

Small, Modern Home With Soundproof Walls

This small modern house is comprised of a series of parallel walls that provide layers of privacy and insulation from the sound of the nearby village. The walls project beyond the living spaces and ascend in height, building from a human-scale wall at the entry to a high wall along the center of the house. The walls diffract the sound waves moving past them, casting an acoustic shadow over the property to create a quiet outdoor gathering area.
