Dress Up Your Design: Accessorize an Empty Entryway

Each month, a lucky reader wins accessories from Etsy.com to complete a room. For November's winner, Jonathan, style-maker Heather Armstrong selects the accessories and shares why she chose them to update this barren foyer.

Before: Empty Foyer

Featuring beautiful architectural details, Jonathan's entryway needs a splash of color and accessories that add texture and interest to the space.

To update the space, Heather says, "From the pictures of the foyer and the other furniture I can see in the other rooms, I shopped for more traditional furnishings. The columns, the curve of the staircase, the art niches, these are all such traditional elements that I didn't want to get too quirky. The color scheme I chose is teal/seafoam and variations on the taupe color of the walls already there."

Over the Hills Poster by MAJA

This piece, as well as the next two posters, would fit into the three niches above the staircase, bringing in a touch of teal and playing off the color of the walls.

Vintage Round Table

I'd nestle this table in the curved nook to the right of the staircase if you're looking at it straight on. That space needs something circular in shape, and the white of this table complements the molding in the room.

Keep Calm and Carry On Poster

I'd hang this poster above the white table in that nook for a bright pop of seafoam.

Vintage Fruit Jars

On top of the white table, I'd place these vintage fruit jars and use them to hold an arrangement of cut flowers.

White Milk Glass Vases

On top of the table, I'd arrange these vases and wood flowers (next slide) with the vintage fruit jars.

Rustic Wood Flowers

On top of the table, I'd arrange the milk glass vases and wood flowers with the vintage fruit jars.

Vintage Dessert Plates

In the art nook, I'd make a symmetrical yet playful arrangement of the dessert plates and vintage Lenox china (next slide).
