Morocco Meets Miami

Real estate titans Leona and Harry Helmsley built this three-story penthouse for themselves in 1981, but sold it to Saudi Shiek Saoud Al-Shaalan before they even moved in. The Shiek then hired 27 Moroccan artisans and craftsmen – who lived and worked at the property for two years – to transform it into an over-the-top, Arabian-style palace with architectural elements similar to the Taj Majal in India. The finished product features sparkling chandeliers, elaborate plasterwork and intricate mosaic tile from floor to ceiling.
