French Country Estate With Hidden Surprise

This gorgeous 6-acre estate overlooking Zuma Beach in Malibu includes a 10,270-square-foot designer mansion with top-of-the-line everything, extensive and luxurious equestrian facilities and some of the finest ocean views in California – but the real stand-out feature is the "Bat Cave." The owner and creator of the estate, Dan Romanelli, was the founder of the Consumer Products Division of Warner Bros., and constantly worked with merchandise from the studio’s films. The Batman franchise was the real standout for him, so when he built his grand estate, he decided to create his “own personal Bat Cave,” according to The Wall Street Journal.

Great Room With Bat Cave Secret Entry

This great room not only features high ceilings, hardwood floors, exposed beams, antique fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling French doors that open to ocean views, but it also has a secret door that leads down a passageway and staircase to the owner's own customized "Bat Cave" below.

Bat Cave Bowling Alley

This customized "Bat Cave" contains a vintage Brunswick bowling alley, with custom soundproofing on the floors, walls and ceiling. A vintage neon BOWL sign illuminates the room, which includes an original Brunswick 2000 scoreboard.

More Bat Cave Fantasy Features

In addition to the two-lane bowling alley, the subterranean suite also features a home theater with bar, built in shelving to display part of the owner's Warner Bros. collection and free throw machines.

Bat Cave Wine Cellar

One of the more grown-up features of the "Bat Cave" is an 800-bottle wine cellar.

On the main level there's a large chef’s kitchen with a limestone island and adjoining casual dining/family room/media room meant for entertaining. The kitchen features a Wolf range/grill and Sub-Zero appliances.

Master Bedroom

You could film an entire movie in the master suite, which includes and antique stone fireplace, private outdoor patio with white water views, his-and-hers walk-in closets, his-and-hers baths, and a custom safe.

Office Suite

This private office suite, accessed by a French window-lined breezeway from the master bedroom, not only has built-ins displaying a small part of the owner's Warner Bros. collection, but also includes an attached gym, bathroom and patio.

Equestrian Facilities

The estate has equestrian facilities that include a large riding arena, four grass sun pens and two large grazing pastures. Riding trails meander throughout the property.

Immaculate Horse Barn

There's also a barn with stalls that can accommodate up to eight horses, and includes a tack and feed room.

Expansive Property

The house itself was inspired by traditional homes in the South of France and completed in 2006. It was designed by famed architect Steve Giannetti, built by Finton Construction, and the interiors were done by celebrated designer Madeline Stuart. The nearly six-acre property is laced with mature olive and coral trees, Spanish lavender, Mexican sage, Santa Barbara daisies and wild grasses.

Ocean View

Located just across PCH from Malibu's Zuma Beach, the estate's outside amenities include, in addition to equestrian facilities, a custom-tiled, saltwater pool with Jacuzzi, barbeque, lighted bocce ball court, sitting area with stone fireplace and a variety of dining areas. Gravel paths wind throughout the lavishly landscaped grounds.
