$100 Half-Day Designs: Hanging Room Divider

Separate a room with a colorful window room divider.

Materials and Tools:

recycled wooden window
3 quarts paint (Behr, Fire Brick, Heron, Bicycle Yellow)
decorative chain
ceiling hooks
eye hooks
painter's tape
2” brushes
fine-tipped brushes
permanent marker
tape measure
chain cutter

1. Tape off all glass portions of the window. Paint the wooden portion of the window with the brush; it may take more than one coat. If the window has a nice natural wood finish, apply a coat of polyurethane or even sand it down and stain it instead. After it has dried, remove the tape.

2. Use a marker to draw out desired decorative design on the glass. Use fine-tipped brushes to fill in the design with paint.

3. Screw an eye hook into both ends of the top of the window. Measure the distance between the hooks and mark it on the ceiling where the dividers will hang. Screw the ceiling hooks into the ceiling at the appropriate places.

4. Run the chain from the ceiling hooks to those on the window. Play with the quantity of chain until you have the divider at the desired height.
