For a play on warm and cool tones, the cabinets are covered with a rich red paint that contrasts with the cool shade of blue-grey on the surrounding walls.

In the homeowners' son's bedroom, designers added 3-D pieces to one of the feature walls, adding dimension and texture to the space.

Modern White Bedroom

This simple white bedroom is livened up by graphic throws and pillows. City views add decoration to the room without the need of traditional wall art.

Pop of Energy

Red is a youthful pop of energy in this kid's bedroom and—because all the color comes from accessories like art and pillows—can be easily switched up as its young owner has different ideas.

Red Underfoot

The master suite includes a spacious bedroom with wall paint in a soothing cool-tone gray offset by a classic Persian rug in bold red.

Classic Primaries

This boy's red and white bedroom was designed to match his love of LEGO bricks. It includes a red and white striped area rug with matching cornice, a white window seat with cabinet storage, a clear acrylic play table, a blue and white striped bed with custom pillows, and a creative bundle hanglamp pendant light that looks a group of light bulbs suspended from red strings.

Multipurpose Style

This custom made day bed gives the homeowners a dual functioning bonus room. Built-in shelves on each side of the bed and drawers beneath it add tons of storage space for bedding and toys.

Modern Living Room

A bright, patterned accent pillow picks up the bold colors used throughout this living room. The blue ocean is a dramatic backdrop for the space.

Color-Coordinated Desks

In this chic playroom, designers painted each child's desk their favorite color and hung a coordinating bulletin board to showcase their artwork. Storage ottomans double as seats and give them extra storage space.

Rustic Red-and-White Bedroom

With exposed pine beams and bright, soaring ceilings, this modern mountain bunkroom at HGTV Dream Home 2014 is designed for children, but the array of red-and-white patterns makes it sophisticated enough for adult guests.

Whimsical Bathroom

Cherry red wallpaper with a lobster print adds a splash of color to the coastal bathroom design. A white vanity, trim and shiplap allow the pop of red to become the focal point of the space.

Modern Preppy Style

The scholarly guest bedroom offers a pared back modern take on preppy style, with walls wrapped floor-to-ceiling with a cream, tan and black plaid wallpaper mixed with bronze and brass accents and traditional rich hues like forest green and deep red.

Bold Accents

Matte gray walls, a clean-lined dining table and sleek dining chairs create a modern aesthetic in this dining room. Striking red artwork and blue-lighted shelves add bold bursts of color to the space, and a traditional chandelier adds an unexpected touch of elegance.

Energizing Bookshelves

Blood orange shelving creates an electric energy in this modern library. A gray sectional and ottoman help counterbalance the dramatic hue, and a patterned black and white rug adds movement to the space.

Eclectic Decor

The sky's the style limit when it comes to this eclectic dining room, a mix of quirky finds and statement pieces (check out the wild, red-wire chandelier!). A stately wood sideboard comes in handy for storage.

Showstopping Style

A cherry red, vintage-inspired refrigerator adds the perfect splash of color to a rustic-industrial kitchen covered in dark wood tones.

Custom Display Shelving

Brian Patrick Flynn displays some of his treasured collectibles in three pre-fab, melamine bookshelf units. The back of the shelves is painted a bold red-orange tone, and trim nailed to the front of each shelf create a custom, built-in look.

Colorful Dining

To keep the formal dining area cohesive in style with the family room as well as the breakfast nook, it was painted in the same navy blue wall and ceiling colors then given personality through framed photography, refurbished vintage chairs and DIY lighting.

Light-Filled Breakfast Nook

Previously void of color and pattern, the updated breakfast nook is packed with vibrant hues and graphic lines. The walls were painted the same shade of navy blue as the family room area and the windows are covered with the same drapery fabric and hardware, keeping the different spaces united for a cohesive look.

Transitional Seating Area

This transitional rec room sitting area features a red striped shade, chairs upholstered in a red paisley print, paintings with red on them and a red Oriental carpet. The brown wood coffee table anchors the room.

Boho Style

This breakfast room features a custom banquette and table. The table is made with a custom terrazzo top and hammered nickel base, and the banquette is upholstered in rich red leather. The Josef Frank fabric of the Roman shade ties together the banquette and the lapis-and-coral-beaded chandelier.

Perfect Patterns

The large walk-in shower features floor-to-ceiling subway tile and is grounded by soothing gray tiles. Sliding glass doors create an open, airy feel. A rustic cabinet provides closed storage for toiletries and open shelving for towels.

Red, White and Blues

Dark gray/blue walls create a deep background for the bright red accent pieces in this bedroom design. The high, white ceiling balances the bold color blocking. Red linens, a red armchair and a blue rug with white stars bring a patriotic feel to the design.

White, Eclectic Living Room

Bright colors, fun lighting and ample seating mix to form a living room with plenty of space for the family to gather. This entire home was designed to provide a whimsical, creative space for a young, vibrant family to play and interact. White walls and whitewashed architectural details allow the home's brightly colored art and accessories to pop.

Play Time

The tonal neon lamp shade and soft baby blue chest of drawers lend surprising sophistication to this boy's bedroom.

Glossy Red Tones

If you're tempted to add touches of red to your exterior, simply try painting an exterior door (instead of your front door) or shutters with a glossy shade of this high energy hue. Oftentimes, just a few concentrated pops of red will do the trick without overwhelming the exterior.

Folk-Art Style

Inspired by an old storefront sign, this dining room in an Atlanta cottage is packed with a mix of folk art, handmade furnishings and flea market finds.

Modern Sitting Area

Two, bright red chairs and a playful, modern print of an apple add whimsy and color to this neutral space. A white fur rug brings warmth and contrasting texture to the sitting area.

Moroccan Inspiration

"Fabric shades are like great art: They transform a space and its inhabitants," says Kara Roberts, director of merchandising for Smith & Noble, the manufacturer of the Moroccan-style shades shown here.

Cheery Red Living Room

Create a floating space plan that involves flanking your space's focal point with proportionate seating and tables; this will keep the room balanced while also allowing direct access to the TV or focal point, like in this red transitional living room.

Red Transitional Kitchen

In just one week, this eat-in kitchen is reborn as a sleek and vibrant place to prep and serve food in style. To stay on budget, the room's footprint is kept as is, while the existing cabinets are sanded, primed and updated with high-gloss, cranberry-red paint.

Bold, Red Accents

A bold, red dresser in the middle of the twin beds doubles as a nightstand in this guest room. Red framed artwork ties together the color scheme. Graphic black-and-white upholstered beds with matching shams and neutral bedding completes the look.

Minimalist Style

Green and white stripes on the lamp shade was the key ingredient to tie in the circus vibe. Mismatched bed ends used again here to add interest and fun.

Coastal Home Office

As seen on HGTV's Beach Flip, the finished downstairs guest bedroom of the Southwind condo, designed by Lucy and Daphney, is now a multifunctional office and workspace with a rustic wood and metal desk with a red accent chair.

Organic Materials

The key to making rooms feel well curated and balanced is the proper mix of organic materials. Nearly every element in this room is made from all-natural materials, including the driftwood floor lamps, Belgian-linen upholstery, cotton draperies, rustic wooden nesting tables and aged-brass hardware.

Chic, Contemporary Dining Room

To keep the flow of the space fluid and to create visual interest in the corner of the main living space, a custom round dining table with "wishbone" chairs make a bright statement and feel inviting.

Dramatic Accents

This contemporary dining room features a bold accent wall and dramatic glass chandelier. The ceiling is curved to match the archways on either side of the room, while a marble floor design adds an artistic touch.

Modern Red Pool

Fancy a little drama in your evening swim? Red lighting makes this infinity pool an instant conversation starter.

Contemporary Sitting Room

Designer Justine Sterling transformed part of an open-plan living space into a small work space and a cozy sitting area with built-in bookshelves flanking the fireplace.

Stars and Stripes Nursery

Stars and stripes forever make a bold splash in this boy's nursery where ample floor space and clever storage solutions make it a room that will grow right along with its owner. The built-in bench is a fun, convenient way to bring in extra seating.

Bright and Bold Kids' Room

This bold, red and white kids' room is filled with bright colors and fun patterns that are great for sparking the imagination of young minds. Two ceiling light fixtures illuminate a white table topped with an array of LEGO creations while a peace sign light decorates the wall.

Sprawling City Views

This lush kitchen design embraces simple white materials and complements the essence of the sprawling city views. It's bright and spacious, catering to modern conveniences.

Eclectic Foyer

A stately foyer table anchors the entryway with elegance and traditional charm. Overhead, a red ceiling is a colorful surprise that ties in the bold artwork and graphic area rug.

Painted Headboard

Add panache to a bedroom with a painted headboard, like the red one seen here that serves as a unifying element to the mix of bold patterns and colors.

Red Accent Wall

The red accent wall in this bedroom provides a sharp contrast to the white bed linens and a light wood bench at the food of the bed. A pair of chrome end tables stand in as nightstands.

Red Backdrop

Lacquered white cabinets and quartz countertops pop against a bold, crimson backdrop, giving this kitchen a modern Asian vibe. The glass backsplash shields the bright wall from wear.

Red Seating

Three red industrial pendant lights hang over a black dining room table with red and black chairs, while a cow-print rug covers the floor. On the wall is a collage of black-and-white horse photographs.

Hidden Storage

When closed, the storage system in this kids' room simply looks like an art installation. Once open, the cabinets reveal ample storage space to house all of the toys.
