Building a Cabinet Shelf

Learn how to fix a broken shelf with these step-by-step instructions from Don't Sweat It host Steve Watson.


After: Just Like New

Materials and Tools:

1 sheet MDF
metal shelf brackets
drill with forstner bits
table saw
measuring tape
circular saw



1. Cut the old shelf in half with the circular saw and remove it from the cabinet.

2. Cut a piece of MDF to fit the cabinet by using the old shelf as a template. Paint as desired and let dry.

3. Drill for the hinges and install the shelf using brackets. Use the router to make some holes to fit if needed.

4. Re-install the door using the existing hardware.
