At Home With Terrell Thomas

Since he signed to the Giants in 2008, NFL player Terrell Thomas has lived in a series of townhouses in New Jersey. When girlfriend Ashly Sells decided to join him (and his Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix, Deucy), the couple moved into this Hudson River-front condo in West New York, N.J. Shopping at stores like Home Goods, West Elm and Crate and Barrel, they created a space that’s clean and contemporary with pops of color and personality.

Living Room

Since they were working with a fairly small space, Terrell and Ashly opted for a neutral palette with a single accent color. “Once we added the yellow wall, it really made a difference,” Terrell says. The sculpture behind the sofa came from IKEA; Terrell spray-painted it white himself.

Pops of Color

Ashly describes her style as contemporary and light. “I like a lot of light wood, white colors, straight edges, not too cluttered or crowded – that’s one thing [Terrell and I] really agreed on,” she says. The couple also likes to add pops of color with accessories.

Dining Area

When the couple moved in, Terrell already owned the whited tufted dining chair. They bought the table from CB2 and added three more white chairs in a different style. The wall clock (which Terrell installed himself) is from BoConcept.

Kitchen

With light-colored cabinetry and stainless steel appliances, the kitchen complements the contemporary look found throughout the home.

Personal Decor

“We have family photos in every room,” Ashly says. The shelves in the living room showcase pictures and Terrell's sports memorabilia.

Memorabilia With Meaning

Terrell was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week in October 2013 for his performance in a 15-7 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles; the game ball he received gets a prominent spot in the living room.

Investmant Pieces

Terrell and Ashly thought ahead when buying furniture and other goods for their home. “Everything we bought new for this home, we can take with us to a larger place,” she says. “The furniture was an investment.”

Spiral Staircase

A spiral staircase leads to the upstairs loft area – and adds major style to the living room.

Upstairs Loft

The upstairs loft area was originally designated as a family spot. “My mom often brings my daughter to visit, and we wanted to have a space that was comfortable for them,” Terrell says. “It has her toys up here and a desk where she can do her homework.” At other times, Terrell uses the space as a training room.

View From Above

A view from the loft area shows off the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room.

Urban Scenery

The condo’s location was a major selling point for the couple. “The fact that we were on the Hudson overlooking the city, and Manhattan is only seven or eight minutes away – it’s perfect,” Ashly says. “We have a view and we can come back home where it’s not as congested and we can relax.”

Condo Exterior

Terrell and Ashly’s condo is conveniently located near a grocery store, a bank, a nail salon and a Ben and Jerry’s.
