David Returns to Design Star

Season 1 Design Star, David Bromstad, has become one of HGTV's busiest and most popular hosts. Most recently, he was featured on HGTV's $250,000 Challenge, challenging contestants to stretch their artistic legs. Last summer, David's team prevailed in Summer Showdown with a modern, colorful bedroom design featuring yellow, gray and white. And, of course, fans can continue to catch David on his show, Color Splash, currently in its fifth season.

To hear from David in (almost) real time, keep a close watch on the Design Star blog. We are excited to report that David will be contributing, so be sure to comment and get involved in the conversation.

When David designs a space, he is known for leaving behind a piece (or several pieces) of original artwork. The same was true on Summer Showdown when he was faced with a new HGTV challenge. His team prevailed.

How has your life changed since Design Star?
Since that first season of Design Star, I’ve stayed happily busy in my own business, Gallimaufry Designs, my HGTV webisodes and podcasts and various personal appearances and endorsements. My husband and I have moved from Texas to his hometown of Thibodaux, Louisiana. My first project here was our own home and I had to work fast. The magazine Southern Lady wanted to feature my new home in their summer 2008 issue and we didn’t even have the walls up! We made the deadline and had a wonderful experience with the team from Southern Lady.

What opportunities have you had since appearing on Design Star?
I still get recognized from time to time, and when I’m introduced, people always mention, “She was on HGTV.” It’s the perfect calling card. I keep a steady roster of residential projects and have just started on the remodel of a dozen luxury hotel rooms. And the [answer to the question I'm asked] most often, “Yes, David Bromstad and I are really, truly friends.”
