Homeowner Emely Romero has decorated her home room by room but is stymied by the dining room. She has tried three different paint colors and always ends up repainting the room white. The dining chairs are uncomfortable and the furniture is oversized and mismatched. Host and interior designer Kristan Cunningham uses a tone-on-tone paint process and fabricates elegant window treatments. Design coordinator Dave Sheinkopf shops for and recovers replacement chairs. Meanwhile, fellow design coordinator Spencer Anderson builds two matching corner storage units. The Design on a Dime team achieves what Romero could not; they give this crowded yet blank dining room Old World charm with only $1,000.
