Expectant parents Cindy and Chris Guyer are on a deadline to make over their neglected kitchen to be a comfortable and stylish place for their soon-to-be growing family. Currently, both the walls and cumbersome window shutters are plain white. The room is dated and full of clunky, mismatched furniture. The only light in the room is one small sconce over the sink, causing many burned meals. Interior designer Kristan Cunningham shops for new cabinet hardware and creates two linoleum rugs. Design coordinator Dave Sheinkopf refurbishes a dining table he found in a thrift store. Fellow design coordinator Spencer Anderson modifies an antique bench and creates a magnetic message board. The Design on a Dime team overhauls this old-fashioned kitchen into a comfortable, contemporary space for under $1,000.
