Hide CaptionShow CaptionThe room is now a cozy den where the Patels can relax after the workday.
Designer Frank Fontana designs the room around the homeowners' love of travel and personalizes it with photos and souvenirs from their travels. Using a golden tone on the walls to pop against the deep wood tones of the furnishings, Fontana brings a lively vibe into the space. He replaces the bed with a sleeper sofa and moves the desk into the closet to open up the room. Fontana gets the sleeper sofa from a hotel re-saler. When buying a used sofa sleeper be sure to inspect the piece for stains and structure. Push on the armrests to be sure they are solid. Also check the mechanics by opening the bed; if the whole sofa moves while the bed is being pulled out, the sofa is not structurally sound.
