To create the woodsy look he's going for, Bromstad makes his own trees. He snips off the branches of an inexpensive fake tree and inserts them into the pre-drilled holes in birch logs. He leaves plenty of space between limbs so the birch bark shows through the branches. The lowest row of boughs is a little higher than customary because he likes to leave lots of room for presents.
