Whimsical Cottage Family Room

There are four doors in the room, and three are French doors with glass panes. The fourth is a wood door for safety reasons because of a nearby hot water heater. To give the doors balance, paint expert Danielle Hirsch paints the fourth door to look like a French door. She marks off where the wood sash would be, using painter's tape, and the "glass panes" are painted pale blue with diagonal brush strokes, which give the illusion of a reflection. A light coat of varnish adds a glossy shine to the "glass." The tape is removed, and the wood is painted white to match the other French doors in the room.
