Video: This hollow wall-to wall window seat helps to make this narrow room look wider plus it offers extra storage, seating and a place for a friend to sleep over.
Materials:

2x4, 1x4 and 1x6 lumber
screws
lag screws
stud finder
3/4" plywood
metal brackets
3 piano hinges
drill with spade bit
decorative trim
sandpaper

Steps:

1. Attach 2x4s to the back and side walls to form the support for the top of the window seat. Then attach lag screws through the boards and into the studs for strength.
2. Use 2x4s to frame the front and cut a piece of plywood to the necessary dimensions for the front of the seat. Secure the front with screws.

3. Attach 2x4s that run across the back to the front to support the top with metal brackets (figure A (interior view of side section from the center)). Use 1x6s to frame the top (the featured project had three separate openings), and then place 1x4s on top of those to create a lip for the plywood doors to rest on.
4. Cut three pieces of plywood to fit inside the lip. Use a spade bit to make a finger hole to easily open the top sections.
5. Add decorative trim to the top and the base plus a back plate made out of a 1x4 to finish the construction.
6. Sand the pieces and finish as desired.
7. Once dry, attach the lid pieces with piano hinges.
