Hide CaptionShow CaptionThis canopy crown was fashioned much more simply by the team than the original one.
The canopy in the Marie Antoinette-inspired designer room is made from 30 yards of lavish fabric hanging from a Venetian handcarved wooden crown. For the makeover room, a canopy crown is built using 2 x 4s and some molding. The crown is spray painted gold then a brown wood tone is added to give it an antique look. A small curtain was sewn to go around the top and front of the crown and large curtain drapes down the back and sides. The crown is fastened to the wall and then the curtains are attached to the inside of the crown using heavy-duty hook-and-loop tape.

Tip: Heavy-duty hook-and-loop tape can be used for many applications–designers use it all the time for tasks such as hemming a heavy fabric, attaching wood panels to a wall and even to repair furniture.
