The $5,500 Venetian headboard in the designer room is made from the finest silk adorned with a handcarved valance. Jamie is able to replicate the piece for only $65. The frame for the headboard is constructed from plywood and then covered in foam and a layer of batting. Three yards of silk are used to finish the padded portion of the headboard. Curved molding purchased at a home store is pieced together to re-create the wood valance. Finish nails and dowels are used to embellish the molding with decorative detailing and an angel relief. The valance is primed and then painted mahogany. To give it an aged look, gold paint is rubbed into the detailing.
