Using inspiration from the guest bedroom decorated by Ogden Codman at The Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island, Cornelius Vanderbilt II's summer cottage, hosts Matt Fox and Shari Hiller make over a guest room:

This guest bedroom is quite nice, but will be made over using decorating ideas from The Breakers, Cornelius Vanderbilt II's summer cottage in Newport, Rhode Island.

The bed is no longer the focal point of the room, but it still commands attention with a toile bedspread, grand window treatment and painted boxes above with urns inside each.

The view of the room upon entering is wasted space as it currently is.

New upholstery on the existing chair and the painted boxes inside decorative trim carry The Breakers theme around the entire space.

This lovely painted blue sky in the great hall at The Breakers was meant to make that room look like it was open to the heavens.

By adding a couple rows of trim around the outer edges of this bedroom ceiling and painting a beautiful sky of their own in the center, Fox and Hiller created a similar look.
Note: We regret that specifics are not available for the featured friezes over the doorways.
