When Yelena and Vlad first moved to the city, they were awestruck by an architectural landmark, a Mies Van Der Rohe building that was one of the first residential high-rises made of steel in the Chicago. The building was beautiful, but the apartment — not so much. The decision to start anew and gut the space was easy.
