The new blue-gray wall paint perfectly plays off the new dark-brown leather club chairs, the shoji screens and accent pieces. The new glass coffee table balances out the light couch on the opposite side of the room as well as those darker elements. Lowering the new flat-screen TV and placing a custom-made bench beneath it, in the same color shade as the walls, helps to anchor that area of the room and provides-much needed storage. "Updated traditional design is really about timeless pieces," Karen explains. "It's about clean lines. It's about well-crafted items, and it's not the hard, cold edge of modern."
