Ethnic Prints Around the Globe
Ethnic themes in home decor have international appeal, from Amsterdam to London. In the U.S., traditional motifs are often reinterpreted, like Asian motifs, predominantly out of India, and Moroccan motifs. "Ethnic prints are everywhere because they are an easy way to bring home the feeling of far-off travels by mixing exotic, colorful prints, infusing a room with energy and a bit of mystery," interior designer Covino says. "Traditionally we think of these prints as available only in loud, bold colors, but now we are seeing more designers creating them with a softer palette."

From John Robshaw, who uses a subdued color palette, to Madeline Weinrib, who's inspired by bold, jolting bursts of color and striking patterns, native influences on fashion and the home are predicted to have international interest well into the new year. Expect to see influences from other African countries, like Nigeria and Ethiopia, as well as Australia, Russia (folk motifs) and South America.

When imagination combines with carefully selected prints and patterns, you can easily invoke other cultures without leaving home. Whether you want to recreate Morocco in Miami or Istanbul in Illinois, surround yourself with the global styles you crave via these worldly items, from an authentic Uzbek suzani to indigenous Indian prints.
