Materials:

nightlight
translucent clay
clear Polyclay medium
Y.I. Stamp, Ink! image from set EC #1 - discontinued
Epson Photo Quality Ink Jet paper
heat embossing tool
empty cardboard paper towel tube
rotary cutting tool or saw
gel super glue
1/2" flat paint brush

Steps:

1. Measure and cut a template the size of the original bulb shield.

2. Remove the bulb shield from the nightlight, and cut the bulk of it off, leaving about a half inch of the bottom part to glue the polymer shield.

3. Scan your image into your computer and print it out on the photo paper using an ink jet printer.

4. Paint a thin layer of Polyclay liquid medium on the image. Paint about 1/8-inch beyond the design and trim with scissors after peeling off the paper.

5. Heat with the embossing tool until it becomes shiny. Repeat once or twice. Peel the image from the paper and set aside.

6. Condition and roll a #3 (Atlas) thickness of translucent clay on the pasta machine. Trim the clay to size using the template you made, and drape it over the cardboard tube to shape it.

7. Use either the gel glue or the Polyclay medium to adhere the color image to the translucent clay.

8. Add snakes or canes as desired.

9. Bake on the tube for 40 minutes at 275 F degrees.

10. When cool, use the gel glue to adhere the shield to the half-inch plastic base piece of the old shield.
