Before: Stark and Plain
Kristina and Steve recently bought this house because of its modern architecture and wonderful backyard. They love the openness of their living room, but want the space to be elegant enough for entertaining yet casual enough to be kid-friendly. While it's a large room, it's also very stark and plain. They want to bring some of the outside in with warm colors and a Zen influence.

By using the gorgeous backyard as the inspiration for the color palette and bringing in durable, yet colorful furniture, designer Kenneth Brown created the sophisticated and kid-friendly room the homeowners wanted. Adding contrasting colors to the existing built-in shelves created functionality as well as a stunning focal point.
