Kitty Bartholomew tours a home with decor inspired by the homeowner's trip to Asia, but it's not typical of traditional Asian design. Designer Belisario Ruiz decided to take a more contemporary, American approach that was more practical for the homeowner's lifestyle. His take on Asian style adds charm and warmth to the contemporary decor.

  • He used an Asian color palette of bold China red, subdued golds and a calming wasabi green.
  • Wasabi green walls create a refreshing look in the master bedroom. White cotton sheers behind the headboard diffuse the light and help to create a dramatic focal point.

  • The vaulted ceiling was a challenge to decorate but Ruiz used the expansive white wall as a background for some magnificient art, which was created by a local artist by dipping leaves in acid then brushing them onto copper sheets to create interesting striations.
  • The opposite wall features a fireplace and built-in niche, which now houses a custom entertainment center. Tin ceiling tiles frame a mirror over the fireplace.

  • Bold red adds a punch of color to the back wall of the dining area. Furnishings in this space include an Indonesian cabinet, natural sisal rug, dark wood table and contemporary chairs.
