Start with the lid on the washer. Use an all-purpose cleaning spray and an old toothbrush to get into tight spots. Most dirt will collect along the lip of the tub. Use a clean towel and spray on the lip. Use a pipe cleaner to remove any debris in the bleach dispenser.
Make sure you clean the lint filter on the dryer before each use. This will allow the dryer to run hotter and dry clothes better. Also regularly inspect the exhaust hose to make sure it's not brittle, cracked or filled with lint. Replace worn hoses immediately.
