Today's Country Kitchens
Country Style : Episode COS-602 -- More Projects »
Old and new design ideas meet in this show house created by Country Living magazine. From the exterior, a mix of materials helps give this new house old charm. According to the magazine's editor-in-chief, Nancy Soriano, the same can be said inside, which features a new kitchen bursting with design ideas.
The room has the character of an old farmhouse kitchen but with the modern conveniences one would expect of a new home. A black and buttery-yellow color combination creates a warm contrast to the crisp white cabinetry. The black countertops are made of a composite stone material. The island work surface is made of maple finished in a warm medium-brown tone that complements the white cabinetry.
Some of the cabinets have been constructed to look like freestanding furniture pieces, like the matching armoires on one end of the room. A black-painted reproduction hutch holds frequently used dinnerware and provides the perfect spot for displaying favorite pieces.
