Tips for Creating a Creative Space
Kitty Bartholomew: You're Home : Episode KIT-1202 -- More Projects »
Set designer Darren Ransdell looks at alternative ideas for accessorizing a home creatively.
It doesn't get much easier than this to add bold color to your space--group similarly shaped glass vases or even iced-tea glasses, fill with water and add color with dye.
Use urns, vases and champagne buckets to hold magazines and newspapers. They can also be used to hold potted plants or fresh flowers.
Stack colorful pillows in graduating sizes for a piece of soft, sculptural art.
Make your own abstract artwork by taking digital images of similarly shaped interesting accessories. Place the objects against a simple background, like a white wall or concrete floor. Download and print the images, frame and hang in a grouping. Or for even more interest, use as place mats on a dining room table.
Drape a table with an Indian sari--it's inexpensive and already hemmed. Finish the tablescape with a stack of gilded picture frames and a vase of flowers in the center.
