David creates a platform bed with a sheer curtain canopy attached to the ceiling and hanging wistfully over the bed. The key to making a beautiful bed in neutral colors is to use layers from light to dark in the same color family, in this case cream sheets, tan coverlet and dark brown runner. When working with a neutral palette, pick several shades instead of just one or two.

In the corner, David has transformed three vine laundry baskets into a dramatic, organic light sculpture. For each basket, he attaches a large sheet of vellum to a sheet of oil paper and rolls them into a cylinder, attached with double-sided tape and placed inside the baskets. Light kits inside illuminate the tangled texture of the baskets. In addition, two rock lamps cast a soft glow on top of the custom upholstered headboard and onto the pillows in a variety of textures below. The backdrop for the bed is an unusual and highly textured cork wallpaper.
