Hide CaptionShow CaptionOn the bureau in the inspiration room is a set of hand-turned wooden obelisks that are finished in an antique silver gild. The pair is worth $3,200. The Double Take group uses some ingenuity and puts together various items to replicate the look for just $44. All About
For the base, a block of wood with a small hole drilled on top is placed underneath an upside down planter. A dowel is put through the hole on the bottom of the planter to attach it to the block. For the middle section, a plastic foam craft ball is stuck onto the dowel. The top piece is made from a tapered square candle that is attached to the ball with another dowel and some glue. A coat of burnished gold acrylic paint is applied and presto, the obelisks are complete.
