  • The existing chandelier is replaced with a custom fixture with a more contemporary style. First, Burbridge installs a pendant light fixture that hangs from the ceiling. Hickory hoops and reed pieces are glued together to form the shade frame. Brown stain gives it a finish that complements the wood tones in the living room. A paper with a reed cane look is used for the actual shade. He uses this material because not only is it cheaper, it holds its shape well and the ends don't fray. He measures the paper to fit inside the frame, cuts it outs and stitches it in place using a waxed linen cord. A support piece is created for the top to hold it to the hanging pendant. • Ribbon pillows featuring various colored fabrics help to unify the color scheme. Baltzer cuts the fabrics into 17-inch strips and sews them together, alternating the colors as she goes. Next, she stitches green ribbon directly onto the seams then puts the facing and backing fabric right-sides together and stitches three sides closed. Finally, she turns the fabric inside-out, adds pillow stuffing and stitches the remaining side closed. Also, more of the fabric is used to enhance the existing curtains.
